Lynne Cody, Recycling Technician - Nevada County
"We were pleased with the minimal amount of contamination from the use of these bins. Nevada County loves the collapsible frame, it makes it easy to handle, transport and store. It was such a success we have to keep ordering more in order to keep enough containers in stock and available.

In order to minimize the transportation of these containers and maximize efficiency, space was allocated on–site to store the containers. Nevada County Recycles works closely with the fairground employees and special event coordinators to ensure everyone knows that the ClearStreams are available for other events."

Montgomery County, OH - County Fair

“The ClearStream Recyclers worked very well for our fair, which hosts about 105,000 people! I saw many people using them. This is the first year recycling has actually worked for us, and we are going to continue to use the ClearStreams year after year! We had the Recyclers placed next to the trash containers, which made it convenient for the people to separate their trash from their recyclables. Our cleaning crew had no problem with the units; it is no extra work for them.”

Dan Bowen Fair Manager
Montgomery County, Ohio

Pitken County SW Center, CO - Summer Concert Series

The ClearStream™ Recyclers worked GREAT at our summer concert series. Pitken County hosts a series of 14 concerts throughout the summer. The ClearStreams™ collected a total of 2,520 gallons of recyclable material! The units are easy to set up and take down! The clear bags kept the recyclables clean (no contamination)!”

Becky Moller

Cass County Landfill & Recycling Center, IA – Cass County Fair
"We used our the Iowa Recycling Association’s ClearStream™ Recycling units for our local Cass County Fair, through their loan-library system. The ClearStreams™ were so effective that the Agency purchased 10 units to use at future events! Now, the local event planners contact us to borrow the containers, and we provide the units and bags for their event.

The ClearStreams™ convenient design and easy setup make them a hit! We are happy to provide the community with such a useful product while still accomplishing our objective of promoting successful recycling!"

Fresno County Local Conservation Corp, CA – Ongoing Program
“Recently, I purchased 30 ClearStream™ units for the EOC Fresno County Local Conservation Corps (LCC). I have used them at 3 large events in the last 3 weeks, and I am extremely pleased with the results.

Two of the events were Fresno State tailgates before their home football games. Typical attendance at these events is 35-40,000 people. In the past we have used 30 or 90 gallon carts, but they failed to prevent contamination and our crews would spend an extra 15-20 minutes picking food out of the containers that were meant for recycling. Using the ClearStream Recycler resulted in the recovery of strictly beverage containers and eliminated the problems with contamination that we faced in the past.

The third event was the City of Fresno Mexican Independence Celebration. This is a 4-day, outdoor event, which attracts 15-20,000 people. Again, we are delighted to report that the ClearStream™ results found no contamination and recovered only beverage containers!

We used all 30 units at each of the three events. Each ClearStream Recycler was placed side-by-side with a trash receptacle. The ClearStream cut down on our service time. With the carts we had to constantly check for contamination, and they filled up faster.

I am convinced that the ClearStream is a great way to go! It’s such a simple concept. We are pleased with the results of using the ClearStream, and plan to use them for events in the future! I will be calling your organization soon to order several more units.”

“I wish to commend you on the development of the ClearStream™ Recycler. I tested them out at a very large street fair, here in Evansville, IN. They worked very well and I am pleased - and I do not please easily! Storing and servicing the ClearStreams are far superior to other systems that I have used. Attached is an order for more ClearStreams!"

“As the Recycling Coordinator, I often times set up the units myself. With the ClearStream, I can use a station wagon to easily transport several frames, lids and bags at one time, without the hassle of having to call public works and get a crew!

Event recycling is so important and by our having the ClearStreams available [on a loaner-system], anyone can call us and easily pick up units for their event and then just return the containers with the recyclables they collected at their event.

I love the bags! The fact that they are so clear and so well marked encourages recycling and keeps contaminants down!”

“I was at a conference, not too long ago, where Resourceful was exhibiting. The conference has promised to offer recycling containers throughout the exhibit hall, however, they did not deliver. I watched as people made their way over to Resourceful’s booth to deposit their bottles and cans into the ClearStreams that they were exhibiting. It really is the clear choice!

We bought several of the ClearStream™ units, and the users have enjoyed them immensely. They are easy to set up and easy to maintain.

The largest event we have used the ClearStreams at was a three-day Village Festival. In the first application, we used 10 of the units for recycling, and we also used some for trash (the units are so versatile!). The TrashMAX is a great litter preventer!

We’re a big supporter of Resourceful - their customer service is fantastic! We needed them in two days for our event, and they delivered on time! They are very easy to work with, because they accept credit cards.”

Clackamas County Recycling Partnership, OR – Ongoing Programs
“We love the ClearStream. People see it in use and ask to have it at their next event. We put twenty in the high school cafeteria in the spring and the high school is asking that they be returned because they work so well. We are hoping to put additional units in our athletic fields, this fall. We’ve had not contamination (except when the units were set out by a scout troop who did not know that they needed to be placed next to trash containers). We are very pleased with the results!”

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Reduction, NC – Ongoing Programs
"We filled a 30-yard container, almost a ton, through the use of your units. (As you know, plastic and aluminum doesn't weigh a lot!) We could have captured even more if we had more ClearStreams.

We compared the ClearStream to two other types of containers. I saw people walk away from other recycling containers which somewhat looked like trash containers and walk all the way across the field to your container. One recycling container was small with a pretty painting and sign with recycling written all over it and they ignored it. The other one was a big blue metal barrel with three holes punched in the top and had RECYCLE printed in big bold letters. It got contaminated over and over again while yours did not!

The ClearStream™ pulled in the bulk of the recycled material that we captured at the event. We are ordering more!""

Yavapai County Solid Waste, AZ – Ongoing Programs
“We have about 55 ClearStreams™ stationed throughout 7 transfer stations, and they work great. The bags are of high quality. Out here in Arizona, it is very hot, and we have never had a problem with the bags melting or wearing out in the sun.”

Boston Mountain Waste District, AR – Ongoing Programs
“We bought 20 of the ClearStream units to make available to local communities (like Fayeville, Rogers Community, and Prairie Grove) when they have special events. We’ve had great success – the only problem was that somebody wanted 25 and we only had 20!”

Waste Commission of Scott County – Ongoing Programs
“The recycling program for Keep Scott County Beautiful has recently branched out to include event recycling. We and we had opportunity to borrow the ClearStreams from the Iowa Recycling Association (IRA) for our Xstream Clean Up event. They worked out very well for us for our outdoor events. It is very easy to get clean recyclables (no contamination), which is important to the recycling process center.

Plans for future programs include illegal-dumping programs and Adopt-A-Road. We have also proposed a pilot project with the local, minor-league baseball club to place semi-permanent ClearStreams™ in their stadium. We are also applying for grant-funding to help us purchase more units.

The IRA has had a lot of success in loaning the ClearStreams™ out to other agencies throughout Iowa. Most notable was last summer’s annual bike ride across Iowa, which gets tens of thousands of bikers. They positioned the units where the bike riders would be stopping, so there would be some type of recycling presence at each of those 10 villages. I know of the one gentleman who works at one of the villages. He had very good look at the ClearStreams™, and said that they didn’t take up very much of space and were easy to transport, very light wait and yet still very sturdy. They worked out very well for him, and I know Dewayne with the IRA is looking at purchasing more ClearStreams™ because he has had such a demand for them.”

"Nevada County Recycles has been using the ClearStream™ Recyclers at special events at our fairgrounds and in two local cities. Here are some of the events where we have used them; Evening Music Concert (in summer), 4th of July Parade and two and three day music festivals (Blue Grass, World Beat, etc.). The ClearStream Recycler works best when they are placed next to garbage cans to provide the public with an opportunity to recycle and prevent contamination. We were pleasantly surprised that when a ClearStream was left standing along in a field with no garbage can next to it there was minimal contamination. We were pleased with the minimal amount of contamination from the use of these bins. Nevada County loves the collapsible frame, it makes it easy to handle, transport and store. It was such a success, we have to keep ordering more in order to keep enough containers in stock and available. Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority, CA – Ongoing Programs

"In Central Contra Costa County there are at least 21 special events that are well attended and have the potential to generate large quantities of California Refund Value Containers (CRV). If recycling containers are available, they are usually the same type as garbage containers (two wheeled plastic 90 gallon carts with inadequate signage). Event participants are confused by the lack of differentiation between the garbage and recycling containers. This has led event organizers to downplay recycling to avoid dealing with contamination issues. Event organizers would like to be able to offer recycling to participates. The project seeks to establish a CRV recycling bin and loan system for use at special events such as fairs, festivals, sporting events and concerts. Recycling containers and banners will be shared by both agencies and several cities. A test was conducted using the ClearStream recycling containers during the City of Ramon's soccer tournaments held in November 2003. The tournament took place in three parks and utilized 12 different fields and lasted three weekends. Five ClearStream recycling containers were placed in two parks on one day and staff collected 245 pounds of CRV material. Staff believes that with the use of the ClearStream Recycling Kits, an additional 1,000 pounds could be collected at 2004 event."

"We've used the ClearStream Recyclers at our outdoor festivals and special events, like the Freedom Fair on the fourth of July, and some smaller ethnic festivals. They have worked extremely well! The benefit of the clear bags is that people can see through it and know what goes in it! They are a lot easier to set up than the 95-gallon carts we used to use with a hole in the lid. We can set up more with less people, and we get no contamination!”

"It may seem exceptional, but we found less than 2% of trash or non-recyclables in the ClearStream™ units, and less than 5% recyclables thrown away into the trash containers. When used correctly, the ClearStream™ is very effective for successful recycling and waste diversion at large events. People who attend our events notice the efforts and value the improvement to community events that we were holding in the City of Dubuque."

City of Oxnard, CA - Strawberry Fest

"In May of 2004, we used about 350 of them at the California Strawberry Festival, which hosts about 70,000 people over 3 days. For the first time we were able to achieve the DOC's goal of 80% recovery and the ClearStreams™ did it with virtually no contamination"

Barbara Wulf, Recycling Specialist
City of Oxnard, CA

City of Wickliffe, OH - Community Events

“We used our ClearStreams™ at a local High School football game (2,200 attendees). Because of the 4-hole lid and the clear bags, marked recyclables only, and because we set them up (as directed), next to trash containers, we didn’t have any problems with contamination! It was very clear to the users what needed to go where. I especially like the clear bags, they are very visible. Our recycling crew could tell from a distance that there was no contamination. They worked great!

We could have used store-bought bags, but I was concerned that the users would think that the units were for trash. The ClearStream bags with the printed recycle graphics were very helpful in educating the attendees.

We have quite a few events in our community parks in Wickliffe, which hosts many events throughout the year. The ClearStreams™ are so easy to take out and set up, they take up very little transportation and storage room, and we plan to use them at all of our events this year!”

Patricia Fowler, Program Manager
City of Wickliffe, Ohio

City of Fontana, CA - International Days Festival

“We used the ClearStream™ Recyclers at our local "International Days" festival. I was told they worked great. Hardly any contamination! They are much easier to transport, set up and take down than the cardboard boxes with recycling lids we were using. We will be using them again at our "Scarecrow Festival" on Oct. 25th. I’m just happy we found something that's easy to use and our crews don't mind setting up and taking care of. Thanks!!”

City of West Hollywood, CA - Book Fair and New Years Eve

“We used the ClearStream™ Recyclers and TrashMAXs at a book fair with 10,000 participants. They worked very successfully, and collected a lot of material. We will be using them at events in the future, including a New Years Eve celebration.”

Jan Harmon Recycling Coordinator

Fond du Lac Reservation, MN – Ongoing Programs

“We used the ClearStream™ units at a few events this year. They collected far more materials than past years. In the past, we converted trash roll-carts into recycling containers, but they were contaminated. The ClearStream™ units did not get contaminated because of the clear bag.

One thing which helped for the outdoor events is to seed the units with a few recyclables. I would put a few in the bag of each unit and people will realize to recycle with the clear bag with recyclables in it. Also the bag is strong enough to be reused many times. I have been using the same bag for one of my indoor units for months now. I just dumped the recyclables out and reattached the bag”

City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Ongoing Programs

“We used the ClearStream containers at our Farmer’s Market every Sunday, and at one large event this summer. They containers are amazingly popular with more than just the city / staff people. We collect recyclables 100% free of contamination! We are ecstatic! They’re easy to move; people like them and use them! We’re now working on a regional loaner system because we’ve had so many requests from people to use them at their events!”

Cranberry Township, PA – Ongoing Programs

“Just a note to say that we received the ClearStream frames on time for our event. The 2-stand system worked great. With garbage and recycling right beside each other it made it easy for our quests to separate the recyclables and the open frame design eliminated lifting full bag out of a garbage can. Our set up people want more of the ClearStream frames. They setup, tear down and store without the hassle of garbage cans and look so much better than 55-gallon drums. Thanks again for getting them to us on time for our event.

The City of Rancho Cucamonga, California – Ongoing Programs

“Recently, I used the ClearStream units at a special event and they worked perfectly! There was no contamination in the recyclables! After we trained people who were putting recyclables into the trash to use the ClearStream, we wound up with a perfect source-separation of trash and recyclables. Our remaining special events for this year are on hold… however, I will be giving the units to some of our community service people in the short-term. We are excited to expand the use of the ClearStream Recycler at special events next year.

Thank you so much for this great product!”

City of Dubuque, Iowa – Ongoing Programs

“Our city and our solid waste agency used the ClearStream™ recycling units for 8 events this summer. The largest was the Grand Excursion. We found the units to be very successful!
I would like to offer some tips for other ClearStream™ users:
It is important to follow Resourceful’s suggestion of a side-by-side system. The units work noticeably better when trash containers were stationed directly along side the ClearStream™ Recyclers. This makes the choice more convenient for the user. We got a very high compliance when the users had that direct choice. When the recycling containers were stand alone, often times we saw much larger percentage of contamination and a much larger percentage of wasted recyclables throw into the trash.
The other point that I would make is the value of monitoring the recycling units and the trash containers with a person that would go along and they would then be able to pull out any non-recyclables out of the recycling units. Mostly, plastic beer cups, which are not recyclable (but people think they are). Also to take recyclables – pop cans, etc. out of the trash and putting them back into the ClearStream™ Recyclers.
It’s about education, and this demonstrates to participants at the event that it is recycling is important and the things should not be wasted.

Collecting data is very important, and helpful in evaluating your program. It may seem exceptional, but we found less than 2% of trash or non-recyclables in the ClearStream™ units, and less than 5% recyclables thrown away into the trash containers.
When used correctly, the ClearStream™ is very effective for successful recycling and waste diversion at large events. People who attend our events notice the efforts and value the improvement to community events that we were holding in the City of Dubuque.“

Not only are the units easy to haul and store, it takes only seconds to remove the full bags and replace them with clean empty ones. And, because the bags are clear, contamination is all but eliminated! We love the ClearStream™ units, and plan to purchase more very soon!”

“We love the ClearStream™ Recyclers! We started looking for a product that was easy to handle because the containers that we were using were big and bulky, and therefore people wouldn’t use them. We saw your literature and decided to try the ClearStream™ and it has worked perfectly! It is so convenient! We can throw the units in a car, add the bags, and a way we go! The community absolutely loves them because they are easy to work with: just set them up, lock the bag on, and people started to recycle! We used them at a big event called River Fest with 500,000 people, and plan to use them again next year!
Recently we received a grant that we didn’t spend all the money, so we purchased more ClearStreams™ to loan out during The Great American Clean Up to the community groups because they are always asking for a more convenient way to recycle. We will also make them available for other community events, like church festivals.”

“Folks really appreciate the heavy gauge steel frame. They don’t tend to blow over when there is a bit of wind. They are easy to set up, easy to put the bag on, and well marked. We have a recycling trailer that we deliver to larger events full of ClearStream™ containers. For smaller events folks come to the trailer, grab what they need and go. It works especially well if they are needing 10 or less. They just bring a vehicle or put the units in the trunk of their car and go. That is a really nice feature.”
