Northfolk Environmental Commission – Ongoing Programs
“We used the ClearStream™ Recyclers to collect compostable material (food waste, paper plates, etc.) for our 25th anniversary celebration last month. We took off the lids and just used the frames with the clear bags. They worked very well because we could just bag up the material after the event.
We are collaborating with the Park and Forestry staff and crews, the FestEvents planners, and the Material Recycling Facility to implement a recycling plan for our downtown spring and summer events. Either the City will purchase them and distribute them, or the Festival will purchase the units, themselves. We have a lot of events with a lot of people. We’ve found that the ClearStream™ system is an effective way to provide convenience for people to recycle.”

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful, NC – Ongoing Programs
“We purchased a quantity of the ClearStream™ recycling containers for one of our major events, a tree-planting project in the City of Winston-Salem. The event involves 500 - 600 volunteers, and we set up the units around the host-site, where the volunteers gather. The program was extremely successful! These containers are perfect! It is clear that they are meant for recycling and not trash. We could see, very clearly, what was in the bags. They are easy to transport, easy to set up and move about on the site for the events. We feel that they are invaluable!
The City of Winston-Salem uses these on a regular basis for events throughout the city, i.e. planting / cleaning events and whenever we have hundreds or even thousands of volunteers or other of individuals gathered.”

CRRA
"The CRRA ran a test pilot at our reception, A Taste of San Francisco at the NRC conference in August, 2005. 45 ClearStream units were tested in stations of three one for trash, one for beverage containers, and one for compostable material. Our objective was zero waste. The TrashMAXs were set up only for the chance that material from outside the reception was brought in.
We made several announcements to inform what was compostables, and by the end of the night, we took away the TrashMAXs b/c we didn't' need them. Participants used all three bins appropriately. Only bottles and cans ended up in the bottles and cans bin, only compostables in the compostables bin. The result was a zero waste event. Everything went really well, and we are really happy with the results.
The clear bag for the TrashMAX helped because it allowed us to be able to monitor what was going inside. It was a good way for us to tell if participants were using the units correctly.
We're really happy we had the ClearStream system!"

"We left our five bins virtually unattended for the three days of the home show, collecting 60 lbs of mixed bottles and cans. The stream was 70% aluminum with virtually no contamination - I found 1 straw, 1 candy wrapper and three paper coffee cups. That was it! As you said, they're virtually idiot-proof. The custodian at our local high school was similarly amazed at how effectively the students used the bins, when we sited them on loan."

RESOURCES
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources – Ongoing Programs
"The department is often called upon to assist local governments and organization in improving recycling programs at events and venues such as fairs, sports facilities, schools, and festivals. In those situations, we have observed the ClearStream Recycler to be an effective way to provide people with the opportunity to recycle their cans and bottles. The design of the container, with use of a clear bag, appears to promote excellent separation of recyclables from trash. We’ve also observed that the bins are easy to store, set up, and move around, important feature for special events."

Waste Services of Chicago
"The City of Chicago has put great emphasis on recycling for any event that is held in the City. Because of this, and the success we've had using the Clearstream®, we have seen an increase in our event business.”

"The ClearStream Recyclers were tested in a crowd of 150,000 at NASCAR's Winston Cup series at the Homestead Miami Speedway (2003). Over 3 days of racing 180 units were tested in 3 different sections of the speedway: outside the gates, the concourse areas, and in the suites. Not only did the ClearStream stand up to the massive crowds and collect over 80 cubic yards of material, a sample sort of recovered material found less than 2% of contamination! Recycling containers or trash containers, it all had to be picked up, and the ClearStream system did not add any cleaning time or cost! The ClearStream Recycler kept the recyclables separate from the trash, so no further sorting was needed!"

“We have used the ClearStreams at several special events, and after the event, they store easily back into the cartons that they came in. We have several units permanently mounted near the canteen areas, and they seem to work really well. I have noticed an increase in recycling participation, based on our waste studies. We’re seeing fewer beverage containers being thrown into the trash. The ClearStreams seem to attract people more than the old style we were using (barrels).
We’re also using them to collect stretch film, like old grocery bags. They ClearStream™ is working very well for this type of collection, as well.”

We use the ClearStreams because they are the best thing I've seen today as a product for collecting and recycling aluminum cans. On Luke Air Force Base, we have approximately 300 units throughout the base. That includes our family housing, barracks and every office on the base.
